Suggestions / Re: seating chart layout
« on: April 25, 2006, 07:45:08 PM »
Actually, there isn't.  I guess I thought I had included this as part of the Seating Chart Page properties, but I don't see it now that I look.  It's hard-coded to 3.  I'm going to add it for 2.1.

You can't set a background image for a cell at this time.  That's on the to-do list.

You'd have to set it to be the background image for the screen.

Help Me / Re: countdown
« on: April 25, 2006, 09:50:51 AM »
in the pre- tournament layout it has start time and pre start clock. how do i set a start time

On the Game tab, press the Countdown button.  You can set the clock to countdown a certain amount of time, say 30 minutes, or until a specific time of day, like 5:00pm.   The Countdown button will be disabled if your tournament isn't configured enough to be able to start.

Help Me / Re: Bounties
« on: April 22, 2006, 01:25:47 PM »
I'm confused -- this may not be the best thread to do this in, but I am trying to figure out how these bounties work. For my tournament, we have an optional $1 buy-in and whoever takes out the last week's winner wins that pot. If you do 1 chip per player, wouldn't the winner always end up with all the chips in the end??

Don't confuse a bounty "chip" with the chips used in the tournament.  A bounty chip is really just a token of some sort given to a player when they buy-in.  When they bust out, they must hand the bounty "chip" over to the player who busted them out.  Then, at the end of the tournament, players turn in their bounty chips to collect the fee associated with them.  This type of variation tends to encourage players to work harder to bust other players out.  A player can win money overall in a tournament without placing in the prizes.

Help Me / Re: Sluggish performance
« on: April 19, 2006, 05:22:18 PM »
Hmm, I'm not sure what to make of those numbers, either.

First, your "Physical Memory" should never change, no matter what is running, since this represents how much memory your computer contains (not how much is in use).
Your "Commit Charge" is a little low, although not unreasonably.  Looks like you've got Windows XP pared down to running in under 100MB of memory.  I don't think I've seen mine under about 130, with just about everything except essential system processes stopped.

So, unfortunately, this doesn't help much.  If the software runs faster with the Task Manager over it, it would seem to indicate that updating the display is consuming a lot of processing power.  This is not too surprising.  But it also sounds like the various other tournament processessing code is consuming a lot of the CPU as well.

I have never run the software on a Celeron, and it's been a long time since I really understood much about the difference in performance of the various processor types.  It might be that a 1GHz *Celeron* just isn't beefy enough.  I really don't know what speed of a non-Celeron processor a Celeron processor could be compared to.

Another article I found that might help users in this situation:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Internet-Explorer-corrupted-fix.html

The directions show how to re-register (all of?) Internet Explorer's needed DLLs, and then use the system file checker to help repair anything left.

Suggestions / Re: non-integer chip values
« on: April 18, 2006, 02:27:49 PM »
2.1 is actually almost complete.  Here are some highlights:

- Nickname no longer required field (you must enter either a Nickname or a First name)
- Import players from CSV directly into a tournament (if you wish to bypass using the TD's database)
- Rounds tab has a spreadsheet-like view now (optional).  All of the values for each round and break can be edited directly on the page
- Option to allow players to rebuy before they've busted out
- Formulas have been overhauled.  Added more variables, and longer (more intuitive) variable names.  Added functions "if()", "log10()", and "power()"
- Ability to configure your own prize suggestions
- Automatic prizes feature
- 16 bugs fixed
- And more...

Implementing the new sound events and the fixing of one sound bug remains.  And then the user manual has to be updated.  I hope to finish it this week.

Suggestions / Re: non-integer chip values
« on: April 18, 2006, 10:32:35 AM »
There seems to be an issue when you try to do the Set Per-Player option for non-integer valued chips, they 0 out any chip that is less than a dollar (i.e. $.25, $.50), so when I try to set the chip stacks correctly it has incorrect total values.

Sure is.  Fixed for 2.1.

Help Me / Re: Can you run TD2.0 from a usb flash drive?
« on: April 17, 2006, 12:37:18 PM »
I don't see why not.  You should be able to run the TD from any drive connected to your system.  When it starts, it uses the location from where it is run (as opposed to using a location it recorded when it was installed).  So, theoretically, after installing the software, you could use Windows Explorer to move the install folder somewhere else, and it should work.  Although the installed shortcuts (on the desktop and the start menu) won't work.  And the uninstall option in the control panel probably won't work properly either.

Help Me / Re: Manually adding tournaments already played
« on: April 17, 2006, 12:34:16 PM »
The TD doesn't allow you to manually adjust times that events occur in your tournament.  What I've found is that the times that events occur is almost always irrelevant, it's really only order that matters, with the big exception of busting players out.  Noting bust out times can greatly help you adjust your schedule to fit your tournaments more closely.  And some people like to track how long players last (time-wise, not just rounds-wise or order-wise).  So, the only thing I can suggest is to adjust your system clock as you perform the various operations?

However, I would strongly suggest you NOT adjust your system clock if you are still in the evaluation period (and do not have a license key), as you will likely cause the evaluation period to immediately end.

Help Me / Re: Sluggish performance
« on: April 17, 2006, 10:13:32 AM »
I think your computer is probably fine.  Might be a *little* sluggish feeling, with a 1GHz Celeron, but it shouldn't be so slow that the clock doesn't update properly.

640MB seems like plenty of memory, too.  My development PC only has 512.  However, what we've seen with a few users is that memory can really be key.  *Having* 640MB in your PC makes no difference if there's little *free* memory.

Bring up the Task Manager and see how much memory is available.  Press Ctrl+Alt+Del, or right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager, to open the Windows Task Manager.  Select the Performance tab.  On the bottom of the dialog, see what these amounts are (when the TD is running):

Available, under "Physical Memory (K)"
Total, under "Commit Charge (K)"

You can copy/paste these amounts, although you might need to pause the display to do so, since it will keep updating.  To pause it, on the View tab, select Update Speed -> Paused.

Help Me / Re: Additional optional Buy-In amount, how to record?
« on: April 17, 2006, 10:01:17 AM »
On the Preferences tab, add an additional rake.  Call it "Year-end" or whatever you want.

On the Game tab, set the per-player rake to be whatever you normally rake (if anything), then set the "Year-end" rake to 0.  Set your buy-in to $5.  Then, for any player that is participating in the year-end tournament, increase their buy-in to $5.50 and set their "Year-end" rake to $.50 when you buy that player in.  You'll have to keep your own list of players who are participating.

This will keep the additional .50 from the tournament pot.  When you run Stats, the TD will sum the "Year-end" rake for you, so you'll know at any time exactly how much has been collected for it.

If you don't normally rake anything at all, you don't need to necessarily create an additional rake.  Just use the per-player rake to collect your "Year-end" tournament money.

The final option is to not use the TD to track the "Year-end" tournament money at all.  You can always just collect your normal buy-in fee, don't rake anything, but collect the additional $.50 from each player yourself, and keep track of it yourself.

Suggestions / Re: Creation of a DVD
« on: April 17, 2006, 09:51:26 AM »
The TD has grown into the program it is today for a reason: users want the flexibility and configurability of the software.  Not that I want to send business anywhere else, but if this is the type of thing you are looking for, there are poker tournament DVDs available today.  They offer very limited configuration of tournament parameters.  But you can use it with only a DVD player.

Suggestions / Re: Chips set selector.
« on: April 17, 2006, 09:48:33 AM »
Create chips and chipsets and save the chip templates individually.  Then, for any tournament you run, you can just load the chip template for the chips you are using.  Does the template solution not work for you for some reason?
